Banana Plantations in Turkey — Only in Alanya and its districts grow real banana plantations. Now about 40000 sq. meters of territory are planted with them.

Harvest and Location

Despite the fact that banana plantations in Alanya bring about 200 thousand tons of harvest every year, twice as much is eaten here. In Turkey, they are located between the cities of Alanya and Anamur. Terraces are usually located on the slopes of hills near the sea coast. Water for irrigation comes through pipes sequentially from neighboring rivers. And in the Yakacik village, they grow on the plain and resemble a real banana sea, in the middle of which flows a river.

Harvest Season and Climate

The harvest begins to be collected in September-October. The peak falls on November-February. Banana is an unpretentious fruit, but does not like low temperatures. In case of a cold winter, and in Turkey this is from 0 to +8 degrees at night, greenhouses are installed here.

How to See the Plantations

If you are traveling by car, you can see the banana plantations in Alanya on the road to Anamur, turning off at the Antiochia Erderogum sign.
